Each player has his own deck of cards representing the strengths and weaknesses of the different factions of the war. The Free Peoples (les Peuples Libres) are desperately trying to lead the way in destroying the One Ring (l’Anneau Unique), all the while defending their lands from Sauron’s devastating hoards and evil allies. The Shadow must strike quickly and decisively before the ring bearers succeed in their quest, or corrupt Frodo, overwhelming him with injuries, fatigue and sadness over the lost of his Companions.
